Northwest Minnesota Annual Art Exhibit

Hosted by the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council

Celebrate the Creativity of Our Region!

Showcasing 114 Pieces of Art

The annual Northwest Minnesota Art Exhibit celebrates the vibrant talent of artists from across the seven-county region—Kittson, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake Falls, and Roseau. Each year, this exhibit brings together artists of all ages, showcasing the incredible diversity of artistic expression in our communities.

This year’s exhibit features 114 pieces of art by 80 artists selected through a competitive open call process by the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council. From bold experimentation to masterful technique, the exhibit features painting, sculpture, pottery, photography, mixed media, digital art, fabric, and more. Every piece tells a story, offering a glimpse into the creativity and imagination flourishing throughout our region.

Featured Adult Artists

With adult artists from 19 communities across all seven counties, this showcase includes 70 works by 44 artists that span a wide range of styles and mediums. Each artwork is a testament to dedication, craft, and the passion that fuels our local arts community.

Students in the Spotlight

High school artists from eight schools—including Ada Borup West, East Grand Forks, Grygla, Lancaster, Red Lake Falls, Roseau, Thief River Falls (TRF), Warroad, and homeschool students—bring fresh perspectives and bold ideas to the exhibit. The 44 pieces by 36 students highlight curiosity, growth, and exploration of medium and form.

A Juried Show

Thanks to support from the McKnight Foundation and the Minnesota State Legislature, artists in the exhibit are eligible for $2,300 in cash awards. Winners are selected by a qualified juror during the show and are celebrated at the Artist Reception on April 25, where they receive their awards. Attendees at the exhibit can also vote for People’s Choice. These generous recognitions underscore the Council’s commitment to fostering creativity across the region.

Artist Reception—April 25

A free public artist reception on April 25 marks the culmination of the exhibit, bringing the show to a celebratory close. Beginning at 2:30 PM, with an awards program at 3:30 PM, guests are invited to mingle with regional artists and enjoy light refreshments accompanied by live music. The afternoon also pays tribute to exceptional contributions to the arts, honoring recipients of lifetime achievement, artist of the year, and arts advocacy awards, alongside additional distinctions recognizing outstanding works in the exhibit.
