Hosted by the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council

Free and open to the public, this artist reception for the Northwest Minnesota Annual Art Exhibit is an opportunity to meet regional artists, celebrate their work, and honor outstanding contributions to the arts. Guests are invited to enjoy an afternoon of conversation, light refreshments, and live music while connecting with the creative community.

On Saturday, April 25, the exhibit opens at 2:30 PM, with the awards program beginning at 3:30 PM.

This year’s “Of the Year” honors include:

  • Rebecca Rosenkrans, Jewelry Artist — NW Star Award (Lifetime Achievement)

  • Samantha Harrill, Visual Artist — Artist of the Year

  • Jane Anderson, Actor and Theater Director — Arts Advocate of the Year

Additional awards will also be presented for outstanding works in the exhibit. Funding for these awards is generously provided by the McKnight Foundation and the Minnesota State Legislature.

The exhibit—on view April 2 through April 25—features 114 works by 80 adult and high school student artists, offering a vibrant look at the creativity flourishing across our region. Many pieces will be available for purchase, which will be marked as sold during the event and picked up following the reception on April 25.

Special Music

RED RIVER TRIO

Presented thanks to the generous support of the Jonathan Group and the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council

The afternoon will include special music by the Red River Trio, a music group formed by three UND music students selected to be part of an annual residency in Kanuma, Japan. The group studies chamber music for one full year under the direction of Dr. Nariaki Sugiura and Dr. Simona Barbu. Part of the training includes regular coaching at UND as well as local, regional, and national performances. The Red River Trio’s final project is a week-long residency in Kanuma, Japan. This project is one of Kanuma’s official events, and the trio will make school visits in Kanuma to promote musical and cultural exchanges. Their activities culminate with the joint concert with In Tempo String Ensemble.
